  Understanding and Supporting Neurodiverse Students on Your Campus

  The increasing numbers of post-secondary neurodiverse students and their varying learning needs impact traditional campus success services. Although academic support services have progressed in addressing the needs of marginalized students, a gap remains in our understanding of how learning differences impacts student success. This session will provide a foundation for understanding the needs of neurodiverse students and showcase ways to customize academic support services for neurodiverse student populations.

  
  Elizabeth Coghill, Ed.D

  Executive Director, Student Academic Success Services
  East Carolina University

  Dr. Elizabeth Coghill currently serves as the Executive Director of Student Academic Success Services at East Carolina University. Her research and practice interests focus on educational access, academic success, and sense of belonging of marginalized student populations: neurodiverse learners, students of color, first generation, economically disadvantaged, and military affiliated students. She is an early adopter of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) techniques imbedded within a campus learning center.

  Dr. Coghill is an invited speaker and advocate for neurodiverse students in higher education. She is a co-editor and author of Supporting Neurodiverse College Student Success: A Guide for Librarians, Student Support Services, and Academic Learning Environments, a Roman and Littlefield publication.

  She is a past president of the Southeastern College Learning Center Association (SECLCA) and served as the leader of the Mid-South region of the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Coghill was awarded the Lifetime Learning Center Leadership Certification from the National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) in 2021.
